About
OranjeWind

Location
OranjeWind will be built 53 kilometres from the coast of IJmuiden in the Netherlands.
Using 53 15-MW turbines (V236) by Vestas, this wind farm will generate up to 795 MW of green electricity, the equivalent of more than 1 million Dutch households.
About the partnership
RWE and TotalEnergies will jointly deliver OranjeWind, each owning a 50% stake in the offshore wind farm. RWE will lead the development, construction and operation of the wind farm on behalf of the joint venture. Offshore construction is scheduled to start in 2026, with full commissioning expected in early 2028. Next to the offshore wind farm, each partner will deliver their part of the system integration solutions. These include electrolysers to produce hydrogen, smart charging solutions for electric vehicles, e-boilers for heating and battery storage, to perfectly match intermittent wind power generation with flexible demand.
Key benefits

OranjeWind aims to tackle the challenge of fluctuating energy production from offshore wind farms and flexible energy demand. By combining the offshore wind farm with various system integration investments and innovations, we aim to perfectly integrate OranjeWind in the Dutch energy system.
Part of the transition is innovation. In order to realise the energy transition, we need to innovate and find new, smart ways to tackle challenges. OranjeWind offers different start-ups the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their on- and offshore innovations in an operational project.
With the innovation projects within OranjeWind, there is a lot to learn. Important lessons and knowledge gained from this project will be shared through our OranjeWind Knowledge programme with knowledge and research institutes and the market, to accelerate the energy transition.
Offshore wind is a sustainable source of energy. As part of the offshore wind energy roadmap of the Netherlands, OranjeWind will deliver a valuable contribution to the decarbonization of the Dutch energy system.
